Thomas Means account book, 1801-1804.

A ledger kept by Means contains entries of debts and credits valued in British monetary units and payments of accounts made through the barter of cotton, wool, tallow, hemp, butter, fowl, livestock, cottonseeds, tobacco, and manual labor. Names of store customers include General Richard Winn, James Alcorn, Mathew Johnston, John Buchanan, Major William Strother, Thomas Shelton, Reverend William Woodward, Captain E. Lyles, John Carter, John Sibley, and members of the Butler family. Newspaper clippings of prose, poetry, and illustrations have been pasted onto the first six pages of the ledger.
